You use two eyes to see in three dimensions. Your brain picks out the differences between the left and right eye’s view and causes you to perceive depth. By taking “left” and “right” photographs and showing each eye a different image, you can trick your eyes into seeing depth in a flat surface. Modern 3D movies use polarized light to split the left and right images. But the technology is not new. The first method to produce anaglyphic 3d - images viewed with the iconic red/blue glasses - was developed in Germany in 1852.
We’ll use a newer technique. First take your own 3D picture pairs using our high-resolution digital cameras. Then build anaglyphic 3d images using the powerful and free App called PixelMator. Compile and a gallery of anaglyphic images. Well-practiced photoshop masters will digitally alter their photos to include eye-popping fakery: insert faeries, robots, or anything you can imagine into your images!
Please dress appropriately for the weather as we will be spending a little time taking photographs in East Rock Park.
You can take your gallery home on a USB drive or CD. You will need an e-mail address (either your own or a parent’s) to share your work online.
